The U.S. pistol market is large but fragmented. There are over 800,000 pistols produced in the U.S. each year. The largest U.S. manufacturer makes approximately 100,000 pistols or 12% of the market. Any manufacturer’s rep reading this already knows that no one has the lion's share of the market. Why is this? Because all semi-automatic pistols basically look and fire the same. All are based on the U.S. Army 1911 Colt 45. All competitors are trying their best to show they are different from the rest.
