Our goal is to bring to the marketplace a safer, yet reliable firearm. To provide law enforcement officers with additional safety in close encounters. In addition, to allow households with children the ability to have a firearm that can be quickly brought to an active state.

My dad and I have invented, patented and have a working prototype of a firearm that we believe is safer and more reliable than anything on the market today. We call it DeLockey: Disabling, Ejecting, Locking Key. DeLockey is unique because it is a relatively simple improvement to existing firearms. It is a lock and an ejectable key that is mounted in the handgrip of pistols. The firearm functions as normal with the key inserted. The key is held in by the safety. Once a person has the pistol in their hand, the safety can be taken off. Then the only thing holding the key in is the pressure of their hand. In a time of struggle, if the pistol is taken away from the holder the key ejects, making the pistol useless other than as a blunt force weapon. Another use for DeLockey is the ability to keep a loaded weapon in the home that will not fire until the key is inserted. This will reduce the chance of accidental deaths by children. Yet give the homeowners the chance to protect themselves in time of danger.

There are approximately 750,000 law enforcement officers in the U.S. today. About 14% or 100,000 of those officers are women. Law enforcement officers are feloniously killed 12% of the time with their own handgun. With cost cutting measures across the U.S., most police officers are required to patrol alone. Most officers are killed within 60 seconds of contact with the suspect. That officer is alone 40% of the time and has no back up. Almost 50% of officers are killed in the six hours between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. They are killed during arrest situations, disturbances and car crashes. The actual number is immaterial, but the facts are clear. Police work is lonely, dark, and dangerous. At what time when a suspect is approaching you, do you fire? Under the rules today, officers cannot fire until the suspect goes for their weapon, then it is too late. With DeLockey, officers get a second chance to pull their backup and blow the perpetrator away. As one cop told us, “Anyone going for my gun is trying to kill me. That gives me probable cause.”

Statistics show that having firearms present reduce crime. Whether we are speaking of burglary or self-defense, especially self-defense for women, crime drops when there is a firearm present.

It appears to be more dangerous for children to play football than be around guns. There is a perception of danger having a loaded gun around the house. With DeLockey, you have the best of both possible worlds, a loaded weapon that will not fire, for child safety. With a key that can be easily installed within seconds, to restore full function.

According to the National Research Center, 17 million women currently own firearms. Further 44% of women have access to a firearm. In a 1997 John Hopkins study of respondents who were unlikely to purchase a gun, 35% would consider buying a handgun that would only fire for the owner. There is a huge market out there for anyone who comes up with a weapon that is considered safer.
